what happens to employees when their company goes bankrupt?

I had vacation time, a severence package, sick days, I worked for sharper image, they arnt telling us anything,

   Dude if they file bankruptcy they are protected and you are screwed.

   It really depends on what the deal is in bankruptcy but I do think that they try to make good on the obligations to employees; including severance. I wouldn’t count on getting paid for the sick days though.
